Future directions on PhD: Research proposal preparation

Around May last year, I decided to apply to a PhD program for my next four-year plans.

The first move I took was to research several unis and check out what kind of PhD programs they hold and what kind of supervisors I would like to contact. There is a list that I expected myself to stay in the UK, cause it’s a familiar place to me, and prefer London, because of more opportunities. They are UAL, RCA, ECA, Kingston and UCA. The reason I chose them is not only because of the location but also the supervisors and areas they researched.

After I read some papers and academic journals, I intended to make an animation-related topic as the title of my research proposal. Combing with the suggestion from Laura-Beth, which she remains me to look at the research area on animation virtual reality and artificial intelligence. Thanks to her, I finally inspired and changed the topic from research animation theory to the topic of animation and posthumanism: developing character animation in relation to posthumanism by modelling virtual influencers on social media. The regulation of the proposal in each university has slightly different, so most of the time and effort I have spent was actually on here.

By writing up this research proposal, I personally feel that I have gained the ability strongly on academic writing and organization in the English language, which is an outstanding improvement for my personal development, I have been very surprised and appreciated that I have made this decision.
